TEASER TRAILER

The slow decline of an ageing trawler exposes harsh realities and personal tragedy for a north sea trawler crew as they embark on one last voyage.

SYNOPSIS

TIDE is a story about place, identity and mental health within a community fighting for its very existence. A fishing community whose identity is unraveling apace.

Skipper, a genial modern day ‘Ahab’ who has fished the North sea all his life is blindsided when an onboard issue threatens his beloved trawler, the Annie. His reaction pulls into sharp focus the reality of life and friendship in a once proud trawler town.

At its heart, Tide it is the story of a way life that is slowly passing and the dignity of those involved.

LIAM THOMAS

WRITER

Actor, Liam Thomas (The Damned United, God’s Own Country, Ammonite) grew up in a Northern fishing community. He spent a number of years at sea before moving inland. His younger brother worked as a fisherman for many years, continuing until it became economically unviable. Struggling to find a new direction, his pride and self esteem were further undermined by bouts of unemployment and related mental health issues. In 2010 he took his own life. He left a note and put himself into the sea. His body, was recovered at dawn the following day by the skipper of one of the last working boats in the port. He was spotted floating by a large shoal bank ‘held aloft by the ebb tide’. This film is born of an anecdote he shared with Liam shortly before he died.
